I thought last week was bad when i was in it. This week I see it as necessary 'ick-ness' to get to a new point when i can see things differently, and thus, do things differently. It's so easy to feel overwhelmed and like things are never going to change - it's hard seeing the forrest through the trees... when you can only see more and more trees. In our house of two, we refer this to 'going down the rabbit hole' where we spawn each other on, down, down, down until we're sitting there feeling like sh**. Then, one of us will say something like, "Wait a minute, maybe there's another way to look at this." So very, very much of our life is perspective, and sometimes doing just one thing differently, or changing the way you look at one thing can mean all the difference in the world. Don't get me wrong, sometimes things are just crappy, and sometimes things are just blissful - but at the very least, we need to be able to carry a bit of perspective to appreciate both. Right?
I was spending some time in my studio last night, painting and preparing for some workshops happening in the coming weeks. I found myself painting with cerulean blue and before you knew it, I was finger-painting. When I went to wash my hands, I started covering my hands in this beautiful blue. The colour changed and transformed when i added water. I had to call Ry to handle matters of the tap (at this point i couldn't touch anything without covering it in blue), and got him to take a picture of my lovely blue hands.
My challenge to you is to try something different - look at something from another angle... you may just find yourself finding joy in unexpected ways.
*** Comical footnote: Ry and i once decided to go left, instead of our usual right, when we went into a store and everything crappy that happened for the following year we blamed on going left instead of right that one day in that one store. ha. ***
Another footnote: I don't know who originally quoted the above quote, so feel free to tell me if ya know.
