daily grind: a day in the life of

Hot pink Converse

do you like structure? I don't. I'm one of those people that really, really tries to adhere to a daily schedule and then ends up curling up in bed to read a new book and eat a cookie for breakfast (this morning). I'm not exactly the best candidate for having a shop for this reason. I tend to be very whimsical and become bored by the daily grind of structure. But i'm trying.

So, not that my days are that typical, but I thought I would share a 'somewhat-typical' day for me; I have read others that do this and I absolutely love reading about what others do in their daily lives (it's why i love autobiographies). Please, by all means, indulge me and link to your daily grind, or share some tips on how a girl like me can get better acquainted with structure.

Stacked Washi Tape
Here's a typical day in the life of me:

6:30am: Wake up with Ry and make my way to the kitchen to get breakfast ready and make coffee. I hate mornings unless they involve being in bed, so this is usually all a blur.

7:00am: Walk Ry to the van and wave to him from the porch. Sometimes he does strange/funny things like pretend to ignore me and then do the Dramatic Look. love it.

7-8am: Clean-up around the house, do dishes, make the bed, etc. I'll sometimes use this time to go for a walk too. oh, and reheat my coffee at least once :)

8-10am: Now this depends. Sometimes I go on the computer and am productive. Sometimes I have an appointment or have to run errands for the shop. Since I don't close till 7pm, I tend to do all my errands in the morning. This is also when I tend to work a lot on Online Shop Stuff. Then there are times I go back to bed with the intention of only watching one of the Weeds Episodes and well, hours pass. oops.

10am-12pm: Getting ready for work and making my way there.

12pm-1pm: Setting up around the shop, putting out new things, taking pictures, etc. I like to pretend I'm having a party every day; I light a candle, spray pretty scents, set-things up, play music and put out my open sign (like an invitation). Then wait for guests to arrive :)

1pm - 7pm: Depending on how busy it is in the shop, I use the down time to plan, blog, upload pictures on facebook, catch up on e-mails, etc.

7pm - 10: Unless I have something planned, I close up shop and make my way home as soon as I can so I'm not eating too late. Most nights consist of flaking out with ry, or by myself. I also sometimes work in the studio on projects. I'm more of a pull an all nighter to get a bunch of things done kind of girl, so I do that every couple of weeks.

10pm: bedtime. Sometimes I stay up much later to get things done, but mostly I use this time to read.

repeat.

That's my life, as typically as I can describe it. Of course there's always events, crisis and other life stuff thrown in there. Then there are the times I have a particularly bad day, come home, put on The Rolling Stones, lie on the floor and have some whiskey. But that's not typical. much. *winks*

Those Simple Things

Just Be ReminderI've spent the last four days in bed. I set up camp on thursday night when we returned from our vacation and cacooned there until this morning. In fact, when I left for work this morning it occured to me that I hadn't been in daylight since thursday. yikes. I don't know about you but when your mind wants to do things and your body does not co-operate, it's frustrating. I've been here before and I find that one way to help cope with this is by honing in on the simple things... like... Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream in an Owl MugJournaling MessOma SlippersZombie Walk Cambridge

1. Ice Cream in a Favourite mug. Firstly I almost never have ice cream at home, especially not the super good stuff. Plus, there's just something about having it out of a mug. 2. Starting a new journal always make me feel refreshed. 3. These are a fun little project the shop has been working on - a wonderful local woman knit all these oma slippers to sell at my shop and all the proceeds go to charity. I hand-picked all the colour combinations to match Laloba's colour palette, so they are super fun! 4. Our town is having our first ever Zombie Walk and I'm pumped! The cute little card to the left is the work of one of my fabulous neighbours Kerri of Black Orchid Designs.

Those are just a few simple things I'm focusing on.

Please feel free to share your simple things!

STYLE: Harvest Outfit

Vintage Copper Poodle Necklace

I love fall for it's rich hues. Since most of my jewelry these days consists of bronzes and golds, it works really well with the reds, oranges and browns I typically sport so often this time of year. We had a fall festival in our downtown area where my local shop is located and it was just cool enough to wear my first sweater of the season. Vintage Fall Outfit 1Vintage Fall Outfit 2Vintage Fall Outfit 3 Vintage Sandal Wedges

Oma Slippers at Laloba Vintage

I cannot believe it's September - and I know I'm not the only one. I have been hearing and reading everyone's dismay at how quickly summer has gone by. I usually welcome fall with open arms as it's one of my favourite seasons. This year I find myself, however, rejecting it's presence. I have left open all the windows in the house despite the very chilly mornings. sigh. Despite whether (ha - pun) it's upon us before we are ready, I am taking in those small details that I do very much love... the rich colours, smells and fun drinks. Oh, and nesting :)Fall Sweaters at Laloba VGet Yer Fall On at Laloba Vintage Chalkboard SignSunflowers from the MarketWooden BullPumpkin Spice LatteLaloba Fall 2012 Window

Online Shop Update

Laloba Vintage Online Shop Update
Since launching the Online Shop version of my Local Shop, Laloba Vintage, it's been an extra hat to wear... a fun hat though :) Since all the products in the online shop are different than the ones in the local shop, I keep everything in my studio at home. I have long given up any notion, at least at this stage, that work and home will be separated. Plus, having the online shop stock at home keeps it from getting mixed up with items in the store. It's extra work, but I really like having an online platform for Laloba. All this to say, I have recently updated the shop with new items, so please take a look. It's my aim to have the shop updated every two weeks with new items. I say 'aim', lightly of course because, well, because of life.

I hope you had a great weekend, a long one for some of you :)
