True Becoming

Thankfulness

Welcome Mat and FeetOctober is my favourite month and this year it seemed to creep up on us. Ry and i were just talking about this yesterday - how months seem to be flying by. That's why is was wonderful to put a lot of things on the back burner this past weekend and focus on the important things; the things we are most thankful for! It was a weekend spent with friends and family, reading, some meltdowns, and generally slowing down. Here's just a few snapshots from the weekend...Pumpkin Pie CupA Handmade Life Porch ShotPumpkin Face Sign for Soup ChallengeVintage Soup MugSit if Placesetting Signs Max and Me 1 Max and Me 2

1. Fall Wecome mat, 2. Really yummy Pumpkin Pie Dessrt Cups Ry's sister made, 3. A Handmade Life Sign (by Sabrina Ward Harrison) hanging in my porch - because I'm thankful for living a handmade life, 4. Soup Challenge sign at my mom's - we got to have two yummy soups and decide who made them, 5. Vintage Soup Mug, 6. Placecards - we had to decide where to sit based on the information on the back of the card (so creative), 7. I wanted to get some family photos and the pup was the only one willing (or, the easiest one to pick-up:)

I hope you had a good weekend - and if you are a fellow Canadian, a good Thanksgiving.

Cocktail Hour

Raspberry Vodka Drink
Hello! I'm back with another cocktail idea that we found quite refreshing indeed (okay, mostly me, Ry doesn't like vodka much). I have always been a fan of coming up with drink concoctions and I think this was (and is) how I make up for not being a terribly good cook. I'd like to think of myself more as Cher's character in Mermaids; I could live on appetizers and fun drinks alone. These do not always include alcohol... but this one does. For those who do not want alcohol in theirs, or simply should not be having it (yes you, under-agers:), this would make an equally tasty drink sans the vodka.

What I used:

* Organic Lemonade (this is just a tasty brand and was on sale)

* Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka

* Raspberry Compote (a.k.a frozen rasberries that had been melted)

* Shaker

* Lemon

* Ice

Cocktails are always more fun with kitcshy glasses, so I started with our Ghostbusters II glasses. I added three cubes of ice to each glass. Then i put a couple of scoops of the raspberry compote in. I then combined the raspberry vodka and lemonade in the shaker and... shook. I used about two shots and then filled with lemonade for two glasses. Then, I poured the mix into both glasses and topped with a lemon wedge. Ta-da!

This has been one of my favourite concoctions so far this summer. I put a bowl of raspberry soft licorice on the side to finish things off. mmm. You can find my other concoctions here and here.

If you have any recipes you love, please share them!!!

Name that Drink

Tequila Drink

I love happy hour. I love it even more when it's brought to you with cheap liquor from the border. Ry is the mastermind when it comes to mixing Happy Hour drinks and the other night he made up this tasty lil' treat while I was making dinner. Quite refreshing. Tequila Drink 2

This is also a really simple drink - which is the best way to celebrate happy hour, no?:

Step One: Add desired amount of Tequila (a shot-ish) - we used Souza

Step Two: Top up with Blood Orange Spritzer

Step Three: Add a wedge of lime (we didn't have any - but that would have really finished it off)

Step Four: Drink responsibly-ish ;)

I would like to name this drink... any suggestions?

Betty for Breakfast

Apple Betty 1Even though I haven't lived at home for awhile, I still get excited when I do things like have dessert for breakfast. Growing up, apple crisp was one of my most favoured things my mom made (still is), but I remember it being a dessert relegated to sunday night dinners. So, I felt like a kid left without adults around (think Home Alone) this morning having a dish known only to me as dessert... for breakfast. eghad. Warm apple crisp, or 'apple betty' as my cookbook calls it, with cream and coffee with cream. Do you feel this strange excitement when you break a 'rule'?

A New Use for Tumblers

Tumbler Yogurt Cups
I love tumblers, glasses and mugs and tend to run out of space for them all. I try to keep our lil' bar minimal so I tend to keep bar tumblers in the kitchen as well. Last night when I was making yogurt parfaits for dessert, I thought tumblers would be the perfect dessert-size vessel. Yogurt parfaits are so pretty that I like to use clear glass to show 'em off. You could equally use vintage tumblers for any pretty dessert at a dinner party, a wedding, etc. Some other things you can use tumblers for:

* Plants - they would look great with any herbs

* Ice cream dishes - think of how cute they would be with a cherry on top!

* Candy - instead of using bowls, use vintage tumblers

* A Small Vase - a small vase for a desk or a gift

Of course, tumblers also make great vessels for their original intention: happy hour :)

I hope you had a great weekend!!!

Luv t.

*** I make my parfaits by layering plain yogurt, berries and honey (and granola on top). I put a layer of yogurt, then drizzle honey, then berries. Repeat until the vessel is filled and top with granola ***
